Local citation

A citation is any online mention of a business's name, address and phone number — in directories, registries, association listings or the press — with or without a link.

The citation layer differs sharply by market, so copying an American playbook in Europe wastes money. In the United States a handful of data aggregators still feed hundreds of downstream sites. In France the useful set is smaller and more institutional: the company registry, the main mapping platforms, sector federations and a few regional directories.

Past the first forty relevant citations, returns fall away quickly, and paid packages promising hundreds generate duplicates you will later pay to clean up. Prioritise accuracy over volume, and treat a contradiction as more urgent than an absence.
